Next Tuesday looks decent. Less precipitation shadow potential. Need southwards corrections.
Very keen to hear your thoughts Kasim 🙂 . ICON is my favourite outcome atm.
January 27, 2021 at 10:27 pm #505Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipantThings are looking very interesting. I think the charts have a bit of 2013 look about them. I can see more western and northern parts of the NW doing well, as well was east of the Pennines and places like Buxton.
I do think Manchester and parts of North Cheshire may miss out if winds are from the SE as they so often are with sliding lows.
Lots of interest to come. I’m hoping Merseyside do well at some point as this is extremely deserved.
January 25, 2021 at 8:21 pm #491Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipantFascinating, cheers Kasim.
I’ll be honest as soon as I see easterly winds I often think the worst. Lots of interest anyway.

January 23, 2021 at 4:31 pm #446Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipantGood shout on the trough Kasim, another covering here this morning with temporary lying snow and poor visibility in Manchester City Centre about 11am.
With tomorrow’s feature being too south, we await the next event/cold spell.
January 23, 2021 at 8:32 am #414Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipantEuro4 accumulation map shows reasonable accumulation in NW Staffordshire, W Derbyshire, Cheshire, Gtr Mcr areas. Sleet, wet snow and hail accumulation on the coast and a transitiin to snow 6-10 miles inland is my interpretation of this. Less of a maritime layer tonight due to light winds hence the above.
cheers Kasim. In my experience EURO4 tends to do well with Irish Sea convection/streamers , fingers crossed.
It got the Jan 2019 event spot on.
In terms of the past few weeks your area has done unusually well. Wasn’t it a sweet spot in 2000-2006 too? Before the north westerlies turned more marginal & easterlies kind of returned.
Yes unusually well the past few weeks. Very bizarre to see places like Didsbury on the news with heavy lying snow.
We did very well December 2000 and was in a sweet spot in December 2001 also.
January 22, 2021 at 6:52 pm #416Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipant@kasim Unusually so , so weird to see places like Didsbury on the news with snow falling and accumulating.
We do tend to do well with a cold westerly. December 2000 was good, as was 2001. Not to forget the white Christmas of 2004 also.

January 21, 2021 at 6:13 pm #387Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipant12z EURO4 shows snow cover for most parts of the NW by Saturday morning, most snow seems to be centred around and east of Manchester , very uncertain.
January 20, 2021 at 10:58 pm #367Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipantFantastic event here, perfectly forecast by Kasim and Chris. Nice one!
January 20, 2021 at 7:28 am #257Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipantI could be wrong but it looks as though the 00z runs have increased the potential for Irish Sea shower activity over the weekend. The convective window appears longer and the uppers certainly cold enough at least.
January 18, 2021 at 6:54 pm #166Withington, Manchester, 38m ASLParticipantRoom for one more ? 😀
@kasim I’m interested in the potential for Irish Sea showers Thursday night into Friday. Based on past experience I’d suggest snow showers could be fairly widespread. What are your thoughts?
Really pleased I can continue to read your posts btw. 🙂
