Evening all. Scattered moderate wintry showers are expected to produce marginal road conditions between 00:00 and 05:00. This may produce sleet-type road ice accumulations between 00:00 and 09:00 up to the coast and snow ice accumulations on roads east of Warrington. Development of a streamer, enhanced by a trough may produce accumulations of 1-5cm are possible locally along the M56 corridor into Cheshire, Greater Manchester and perhapd Staffordshire. There is also a slight chance convection will be limited.
Convection is expected to be somewhat limited further east due to light winds so impacts into the Peak District are not expected to be any greater than lowland Cheshire. Locally 1-3cm especially for interests around Macclesfield, Leek and Congleton.
January 22, 2021 at 5:55 pm #409Kasim AwanKeymasterEuro4 accumulation map shows reasonable accumulation in NW Staffordshire, W Derbyshire, Cheshire, Gtr Mcr areas. Sleet, wet snow and hail accumulation on the coast and a transitiin to snow 6-10 miles inland is my interpretation of this. Less of a maritime layer tonight due to light winds hence the above.

cheers Kasim. In my experience EURO4 tends to do well with Irish Sea convection/streamers , fingers crossed.
It got the Jan 2019 event spot on.

In terms of the past few weeks your area has done unusually well. Wasn’t it a sweet spot in 2000-2006 too? Before the north westerlies turned more marginal & easterlies kind of returned.
January 22, 2021 at 6:02 pm #413Kasim AwanKeymasterStreamers – Euro4/Harmomie
Troughs – Wrf
Fronts – Arpege

We do tend to do well with a cold westerly. December 2000 was good, as was 2001. Not to forget the white Christmas of 2004 also.

Yes unusually well the past few weeks. Very bizarre to see places like Didsbury on the news with heavy lying snow.
We did very well December 2000 and was in a sweet spot in December 2001 also.
